About The Position

The Receiving Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming materials, components, and finished goods meet Unusual Machines' established quality standards before they are accepted into inventory or released to production. This role plays a critical part in our supply chain integrity and commitment to delivering reliable, high-performance drone products. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and passionate about quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of experience in receiving inspection, incoming quality control, or a related manufacturing quality role.
  • Proficiency with hand measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, go/no-go gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or IPC-A-610.
  • Experience with quality management systems (QMS) for documentation and NCR tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in the electronics, aerospace, defense, or consumer technology industries.
  • Familiarity with FPV drones, RC systems, or related electronics hardware.
  • Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) handling procedures.
  • Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience working with domestic and international suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming shipments of drone components, electronic assemblies, mechanical parts, and raw materials against purchase orders, drawings, and specifications.
  • Perform dimensional, visual, and functional checks using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Verify quantity, part numbers, lot numbers, and documentation (Certificates of Conformance, test reports, country of origin) for each shipment.
  • Record inspection results accurately in the quality management system (QMS) and maintain detailed inspection logs.
  • Identify, tag, and quarantine nonconforming material; initiate and track nonconformance reports (NCRs).
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineering, and production teams to resolve supplier quality issues promptly.
  • Support supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and assist in root cause analysis efforts.
  • Maintain calibration records for inspection equipment and ensure tools are within calibration intervals.
  • Assist in developing and updating receiving inspection procedures, acceptance criteria, and work instructions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to incoming quality and supplier performance.
