About The Position
The Receiving Clerk is responsible for accepting, inspecting, and recording incoming shipments of goods and materials, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders, and preparing items for storage or distribution. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate inventory records and smooth warehouse operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in receiving, shipping, or warehouse operations preferred
- Basic computer skills; experience with inventory or WMS software a plus
- Ability to operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, and/or forklifts (certification a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (typically up to 50 lbs, more with equipment)
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a warehouse environment (varying temperatures, noise levels)
- Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in receiving, shipping, or warehouse operations
- Experience with inventory or WMS software
- Forklift certification
Responsibilities
- Receive incoming deliveries from carriers and verify shipments against packing slips, invoices, and purchase orders
- Inspect goods for damage, defects, or discrepancies and report issues to the appropriate department
- Unload trucks and shipments using hand trucks, pallet jacks, or forklifts as needed
- Count, weigh, and measure items to confirm order accuracy
- Enter received inventory into the warehouse management system (WMS) or inventory database
- Label, sort, and organize products for storage in designated areas
- Coordinate with purchasing and warehouse staff to resolve order discrepancies
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe receiving dock and storage areas
- Process and document returns, damaged goods, or backorders
- Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory audits
- Maintain accurate paperwork and digital records for all incoming shipments
