About The Position

Oaklawn is seeking a talented individual to become a Receiving Barn Assistant. This role is responsible for overseeing all horses to the receiving barn, coordinating arrival and departure times with trainers, ensuring stalls are clean and properly bedded, assigning stalls to arriving trainers, managing racing slips, and prepping stakes stalls for horses arriving in other barns. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes crowded/noisy environment, handle physical demands, and be available for overtime, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, understand and speak English
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for periods of time and work in inclement weather when necessary
  • Punctual attendance required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in English
  • Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations
  • Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the shift
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must have the ability to stand, climb, push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces
