About The Position

Apple is seeking an experienced RF engineer to validate the RF performance of cellular transceivers and their surrounding RF subsystems. The role focuses on market-leading cellular transceivers and supports future Apple products, whose cellular subsystems are designed to provide strong network connectivity with low battery consumption. The engineer will define validation strategies and create test plans from receiver system specifications, characterize and optimize RF parameters, analyze functional and performance issues across verification phases, and develop test automation scripts. The position uses an agentic engineering workflow: scoping problems, defining pass/fail criteria, delegating implementation and execution to AI agents, and checking results against specifications. The engineer will also apply AI/ML methods to improve measurement and analysis capabilities and scale regression environments. The role requires collaborative work across teams, while managing deliverables and dependencies independently and meeting commitments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Communication/Embedded Systems, or equivalent.
  • Several years of industry experience.
  • Experience with RF transceiver system definition and architecture, including RF impairments such as I/Q imbalance, DC offset, phase noise, and nonlinearity, and their impact on receiver performance.
  • Ability to derive validation strategies, test plans, and pass/fail criteria from system specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3GPP standards, particularly RF transceiver aspects and receiver RF requirements.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML, ability to apply AI/ML methods, and a solid grasp of fundamentals.
  • Good programming skills, including use of modern AI coding assistants to generate scripts, debug logic, and optimize code; relevant languages include Python, C/C++, and MATLAB.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate technically with a variety of teams.
  • Team spirit, excellent communication skills, and willingness to take on diverse challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience applying AI/ML techniques and agentic engineering—delegating tasks to AI agents and verifying their output—to RF, signal-processing, or lab-automation problems.
  • Hands-on experience from PhD work, a thesis, internships, or industry in characterizing and debugging RF cellular systems and components, including root cause analysis.
  • Experience creating test automation scripts for laboratory and/or regression environments.

Responsibilities

  • Define validation strategies and create test plans derived from receiver system specifications.
  • Characterize and optimize key RF parameters.
  • Analyze functional and performance issues encountered during verification phases.
  • Develop scripts for test automation in laboratory and/or regression environments.
  • Scope problems and define pass/fail criteria in an agentic engineering workflow.
  • Delegate implementation and execution to AI agents and verify results against specifications.
  • Apply AI/ML-based methods to advance measurement and analysis capabilities and scale regression environments.
  • Collaborate technically with Design, Firmware, System, and other teams.
  • Manage deliveries and dependencies independently and meet commitments.
