About The Position

The Raw Material Receipt Inspector is responsible for inspecting, sampling, and documenting all incoming raw materials and packaging components used in food production. This role ensures materials meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards prior to acceptance into the facility. To perform their daily tasks, the inspector works closely, customers, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, Operations, and Procurement teams. The role utilizes various computer systems to document inspection results, maintain records, and support traceability requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, receiving inspection, or a related field.
  • Basic computer proficiency required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including data entry, basic formulas, and spreadsheet maintenance.
  • Ability to use quality management systems, databases, or ERP software.
  • Requires prolonged sitting and continuous use of computer.
  • May lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming raw materials and packaging supplies to verify compliance with product specifications, safety standards, and purchase requirements.
  • Perform physical, sensory, and analytical evaluations including taste (when applicable), color, odor, texture, weight, temperature, and dimensions.
  • Verify lot codes, expiration dates, country of origin, and condition of shipments.
  • Identify non-conforming materials, place product on hold when required, and notify appropriate stakeholders.
  • Collect samples as required and properly label, store, and document them.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety policies, and sanitation standards.
  • Support Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs, including CCP verification and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and company food safety requirements as applicable.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of inspection areas.
  • Accurately complete inspection reports, logs, and forms using both paper and electronic systems.
  • Enter inspection results, material status, and disposition information into quality databases or ERP systems.
  • Use basic Microsoft Excel functions such as data entry, simple formulas, sorting, filtering, and maintaining logs or spreadsheets.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical files to support audits, traceability, and record retention requirements.
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly with QA, Receiving, Warehouse, and Procurement teams.
  • Assist with investigations related to supplier quality issues and corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with production and supporting departments to ensure the food safety and quality of our products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
