Reality Capture Specialist

Hansen Consulting Group•Sparks, NV
•$72,000 - $144,000

About The Position

The Reality Capture Specialist independently operates NavVis VLX or MLX mobile LiDAR systems and drones (UAS) to document construction progress on active job sites. The role uses ground-based scanning and aerial capture to produce 3D point clouds, photogrammetry, and aerial imagery that help project teams track progress, identify discrepancies, and document site conditions. The specialist develops standard operating procedures and capture schedules; coordinates with client leadership, field supervision, quality teams, project managers, and surveyors; manages data archiving to client standards; and advises on LiDAR and aerial capture methodology. Capture activities support client scheduling and site operations across planning, pre-installation, active construction, and post-installation verification.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience operating NavVis VLX or MLX, or comparable mobile LiDAR scanning systems, on active construction sites.
  • Experience flying drones (UAS) for aerial capture and a valid remote pilot certification (FAA Part 107 or local equivalent).
  • Ability to capture, process, and quality-assure 3D point cloud data, drone photogrammetry, and aerial imagery.
  • Proficiency with point cloud and BIM software such as NavVis IVION, ReCap, Navisworks, and Revit.
  • Working knowledge of survey control points and geolocating datasets, and ability to coordinate with surveyors.
  • Understanding of construction phases and ability to spot discrepancies against plans.
  • Experience tracking progress and producing clear reports from scan and aerial data, including presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Skill in building SOPs, scan and flight schedules, and reality capture workflows according to client requirements.
  • Strong data management skills, including archiving and backups according to client standards and producing complete, accurate deliverables.
  • Ability to coordinate with leadership, field supervisors, quality teams, and project managers while minimizing site disruption.
  • Ability to act as a technical advisor on LiDAR and aerial capture methodology, capture planning, and field implementation strategy.
  • Independent, detail-oriented, and adaptable approach to working on an active job site.

Responsibilities

  • Independently operate NavVis VLX or MLX LiDAR systems to capture 3D point cloud data on active construction sites.
  • Plan and fly drone (UAS) missions for aerial capture, photogrammetry, and site imagery in compliance with FAA Part 107 or local equivalent requirements and site safety requirements.
  • Capture sites for planning, pre-installation, active construction, and post-installation verification.
  • Work with surveyors to obtain control points for geolocated LiDAR and aerial datasets.
  • Process and quality-assure point cloud, photogrammetry, and aerial data to ensure it is complete, accurate, and meets project requirements.
  • Register and integrate ground-based LiDAR and drone-derived data into unified, geolocated datasets.
  • Deliver point cloud and scan-based outputs for downstream project use.
  • Archive and back up captured data according to HCG and client standards.
  • Establish and manage SOPs, scanning and flight schedules, capture frequencies, and reality capture workflows according to client requirements and project needs.
  • Coordinate scan and flight activities with client leadership, field supervision, quality teams, project managers, and other authorized stakeholders while minimizing disruption to construction.
  • Track and document physical construction progress against plans.
  • Identify and communicate field conditions and discrepancies.
  • Generate project reports from scan and aerial data and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Advise client leadership on LiDAR and drone operations, capture planning, field implementation strategy, and data capture methodology.
