About The Position

Leidos’ Electronic Warfare Division is seeking a Real-Time Software Engineer to perform design, development, and hardware/software integration in Arlington, Virginia. The division focuses on research and development and advanced prototyping, transforming state-of-the-art signal-processing algorithms into real-time software systems. Projects are carried out by small, multidisciplinary teams in spiral or agile development environments to meet customer schedules for near-term field demonstrations. The role involves implementing high-performance signal processing on general-purpose processors, such as ARM, and contributing to advanced electronic warfare systems. The engineer will develop, test, and integrate real-time software for multicore systems, work with Linux and real-time operating systems, and interface with RF hardware and communication protocols. The position also involves reading signal-processing algorithms written in MATLAB, integrating software with third-party frameworks, documenting systems, and supporting occasional field testing and collection events. Those events usually last about a week and occur once or twice a year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of software development experience, including strong experience programming in Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design.
  • Basic understanding of hardware-software interaction and computer architecture.
  • Experience with hardware interfaces such as PCIe, UART, or Ethernet.
  • Experience with build tools such as GCC, CMake, or Make.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git or Subversion and continuous integration tools such as Jenkins.
  • Experience with software testing tools and methodology.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation for developed software.
  • Ability to communicate and share ideas, concepts, and designs with a team of engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to continually learn new technical skills and concepts.
  • Understanding of unit-test frameworks and test-driven development practices.
  • Active Secret-level security clearance and ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Active security clearance higher than the Secret level.
  • Ability to debug embedded systems using tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Experience maintaining, tracking, and updating tickets or status using GitLab or a similar interface.
  • Experience using common scripting languages such as Bash.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of advanced systems as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Design, implement, and test real-time C/C++ software for multicore systems running Linux or real-time operating systems such as VxWorks.
  • Build software products that use third-party mathematics and communication libraries.
  • Interface with communication standards and protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, and DDS.
  • Read and understand signal-processing algorithms written in MATLAB.
  • Work with Linux and real-time operating systems.
  • Design, implement, and test software to configure and control RF hardware devices.
  • Integrate software into third-party frameworks and architectures such as Redhawk.
  • Document developed systems.
  • Support system field testing and collection events, usually about a week in duration once or twice a year.

Benefits

  • Four or more weeks of paid time off.
  • 11 paid holidays.
  • 401(k) with a 6% company match and immediate vesting.
  • Flexible schedules.
  • Discounted stock purchase plans.
