About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) is seeking a Real ID Specialist for their Field Services Group / Northwest Region in Salem. This role is a limited duration appointment, expected to end on or before June 30, 2027, with the potential to become permanent. The specialist will assist the public in obtaining Real ID compliant identification cards, answer questions related to the Real ID Act, and provide customer service for Oregonians seeking compliant documents. ODOT aims to provide a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system that connects people and helps Oregon's communities and economy thrive. Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience involving providing information about services/programs or explaining/applying rules, regulations, and procedures in person or by phone.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months of experience collecting money and making change.
  • Ability to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy (typing assessment will be conducted).
  • Must be able to fill out the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming eligibility to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining Real ID compliant identification cards, instruction permits, or licenses.
  • Serve as a primary representative in the office for Real ID transactions.
  • Accurately produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct, and explain driver license knowledge tests.
  • Conduct vision tests.
  • Explain state and federal requirements for various driver and identification transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while adhering to privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to answer complex questions.
  • Collaborate with office leaders and managers to ensure efficient operations related to issuing Real ID.
  • Examine documents for eligibility prior to issuing credentials.
  • Prepare daily reports and balance transactions at the end of each day.
  • Travel to other offices in the region to perform relief work.
