About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) is seeking a Real ID Specialist for their Field Services Group in Medford. This is a limited duration appointment, expected to end on or before June 30, 2027, with the potential to become permanent. The role involves assisting the public with obtaining Real ID compliant identification cards, answering questions related to the Real ID Act, and providing customer service for Oregonians seeking compliant documents. ODOT aims to provide a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system that supports Oregon's communities and economy, and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds and abilities.

Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a DMV office setting with extensive face-to-face interaction with the public.
  • Ability to fill out the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming you are able to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining Real ID licenses, instruction permits, or identification cards.
  • Serve as a primary representative in the office for Real ID transactions.
  • Accurately produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct, and explain driver license knowledge tests.
  • Conduct vision tests.
  • Explain state and federal requirements for various driver and identification transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while adhering to privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.
  • Collaborate with office leaders and managers to ensure efficient operations related to issuing Real ID.
  • Examine documents for eligibility prior to issuing credentials.
  • Prepare daily reports and balance transactions at the end of each day.
  • Travel to other offices in the region to perform relief work.
