About The Position

This position will be responsible for providing paralegal support for the lawyers in the Edmonton office to meet client needs and transactional deadlines. Responsibilities will cover all aspects of residential real estate transactions and will include the preparation and review of documents for such matters. Our ideal candidate will have drafting and practical experience from working in a busy real estate practice. This candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, have superior computer proofreading and time management skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work independently under the supervision of a lawyer, follow instructions with minimum supervision and be able to thrive in a dynamic, professional team environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized legal assistant or paralegal program (equivalencies may be considered)
  • Five years of experience working with real estate transactions
  • Advanced computer skills including in Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
  • Strong organization skills and exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
  • A client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients

Responsibilities

  • Managing all stages of residential real estate files from start to finish
  • Managing all incoming and outgoing funds, including calculating and requisitioning funds for closings, mortgage financing and other requirements
  • Reviewing, preparing and filing transactional documents, including transfers, mortgages, agreements, leases, subdivisions for filing at Alberta LTO, trust letters, refinancing and sale and purchase contracts
  • Conducting due diligence searches (e.g. land titles, property tax, zoning, bankruptcy) and summarizing results
  • Organizing closing schedules and managing funds for closings and mortgage financing
  • Drafting correspondence, preparing statements of account and statement of adjustments and handling client communications
  • Producing timely reports for clients and lenders
