Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education and State certification as a Reading Specialist is required.
  • Extensive experience, with a focus on literacy instruction.
  • Proven success in coaching and mentoring teachers and a strong understanding of literacy assessment tools and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the unique needs of diverse learners and educational settings.
  • Current understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices;
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues and families using a variety of methods;
  • Effectively uses technology to support instruction;
  • Mastery and modeling of current RESEARCHED BASED PRACTICES, how to implement programs effectively and the ability to present these practices to large groups;
  • Uses and asset-based mindset when working with students;
  • Sees themselves as a lifelong learner, consistently seeking new and innovative ways to help meet student needs;
  • Uses problem-solving strategies in all aspects of the work;
  • Possesses a growth mindset and is open to new and innovative practices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to assess individual and collective needs in literacy instruction;
  • Utilizes student data and classroom assessments to inform instructional strategies;
  • Provides feedback to teachers on effective literacy strategies, scaffolded instruction, and assessment techniques;
  • Provides feedback to teachers and PLCs to enhance teaching practices;
  • Guides teachers in interpreting student data and adapting instructional approaches to address specific student needs;
  • Reviews progress toward goals with teachers and adjusts strategies as needed;
  • Assists in the implementation of the comprehensive and research-based curriculum;
  • Works with teachers to align curriculum materials with state standards;
  • Brings the latest research and pedagogy in the field of literacy to PLC meetings.
  • Attends regular PLC meetings where teachers can share successes, challenges, and strategies for improving literacy outcomes;
  • Encourages collaborative problem-solving and the exchange of best practices among educators;
  • Fosters a culture of continuous learning and professional growth;
  • Conducts thorough assessments to identify students' literacy strengths and areas for improvement;
  • Utilizes diagnostic tools and assessments to identify specific literacy needs and recommend appropriate interventions;
  • Designs and implements targeted evidence-based interventions;
  • Provides targeted instruction through small group or one-on-one interventions;
  • Provides instruction that aligns with students' assessed needs;
  • Monitors progress to adjust interventions and instructional strategies accordingly;
  • Collaborates with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to share progress updates and recommend ongoing support;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
