About The Position

With supervision, designs and delivers reading curriculum and instruction for Grades 1-12. Supports and trains teachers in the implementation of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for reading instruction for a wide variety of students. Models lessons and co-teaches reading classes, and provides intensive targeted reading instruction to individual and small groups of students as needed. Conducts student reading and educational assessments, participates in the purchase and implementation of reading curriculum materials, and provides professional development for teachers in all areas of reading instruction. Adapts materials as needed for students with visual impairments and/or other disabilities. Plans and participates in on and off-campus student activities and performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of reading instruction, curriculum, and differentiated instruction techniques.
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree.
  • General knowledge of education of students with visual impairment and/or special education.
  • General knowledge of program development and classroom resource management.
  • Ability to push and pull in excess of 100 pounds.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 25 pounds with assistance.
  • General knowledge of a behavioral management and intervention protocol (required after one year).
  • Basic knowledge and fluency in uncontracted and contracted Braille (required after one year).
  • General knowledge of First Aid and CPR (required after one year).
