About The Position

Rocky Mount Middle School is proposing the addition of a full time Interventionist. This position will provide targeted academic support for students experiencing learning gaps through Tier II and Tier III interventions while also strengthening services for English Learners and other students requiring supplemental instruction. The Interventionist will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and administrators to identify student needs, monitor academic progress, implement research based intervention strategies, and adjust instruction based on student performance data. The addition of this position will expand opportunities for individualized instruction through one on one support, small group interventions, and progress monitoring. These targeted instructional practices are essential for accelerating student growth, closing achievement gaps, and increasing overall academic proficiency. Furthermore, the position will enhance the school's Multi Tiered System of Supports by providing consistent intervention services that complement core classroom instruction and ensure students receive the level of support necessary for academic success. Rocky Mount Middle School has demonstrated strong academic growth and remains committed to continuous improvement and high expectations for all students.   • Eligibility: Grade 6, 7 and 8 Student Support (Tier II and Tier III)
  • Teacher/Student Ratio: 1:15

Responsibilities

  • Provides research based instructional interventions aligned to the core curriculum for middle school students in both individual and small group settings.
  • Adapts instruction to address students' diverse academic needs, learning styles, and interests while supporting their progress toward grade level proficiency.
  • Establishes clear learning objectives aligned with North Carolina Standard Course of Study expectations and implements targeted interventions designed to accelerate student achievement.
  • Identifies student needs, analyzes data, and adjusts instruction to maximize student growth and close achievement gaps through ongoing assessment and progress monitoring.
  • Fosters a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment that encourages student success and maintains high expectations for all learners.
  • Provides timely, constructive feedback.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to align intervention with core instruction.
  • Uses research based intervention programs and instructional resources with fidelity.
  • Maintains effective communication with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to support student achievement.
  • Participates in collaborative problem solving.
  • Contributes to school improvement efforts.
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress.
  • Upholds all district policies and professional standards.
  • Works individually or in small groups with students to assess current level of performance.
  • Provides targeted instructional that meets the need of each individual students.
  • Writes lesson plans and analyzes data under the direction of the Intervention Coordinator.
  • Treats all children with dignity and respect.
  • Attends all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences, including in-service training as may be required by the district.
  • Operates and cares for instructional equipment used in the classroom.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
  • Follows directions given by head teacher or immediate supervisor.
  • Assists with the supervision of students outside the classroom such as: field trips to assist with student supervision and safety, during play period, lunchroom activities, dismissal, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
  • Handles sensitive and confidential information, documents, communications, incidents, etc., with discretion and in a conscientious manner.
  • Cooperates and shares professionally with other members of the staff.
  • Promotes high academic/achievement for all children.
  • Promotes a greater focus on teaching and learning.
  • Promotes flexibility to stimulate local initiatives coupled with responsibility for student performance.
  • Promotes improved linkages among schools, parents and communities.
  • Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate district/campus personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities.
  • Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve reading.
  • Participates in staff development focused on delivery of reading intervention and assessment.
