About The Position

Excel Academy is seeking a Founding Reading Interventionist for their network of schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This role focuses on preparing students in grades 5-12 for high school and college success. The majority of their 1,700 students identify as Latinx or Hispanic and are often the first in their families to graduate from college. Excel Academy is committed to providing a free, high-quality, holistic education, with students growing at a pace faster than their peers in middle school through rigorous instruction and individualized support. The high school program ensures students achieve at the highest level, preparing them for college or career paths. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Rhode Island certified in at least one of the following areas: Secondary English Teacher, Grades 6-12; Secondary Special Education Teacher, Grades 6-12; or All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12, or in the process of obtaining certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Speaking Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or a language commonly spoken by students and families at an advanced level.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Reading inclusion teacher for Founding 9th grade students to support students with high needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to differentiate curriculum, create accommodations, and modify curriculum.
  • Ensure all work with students with special needs aligns with the school’s academic goals.
  • Ensure Special Education services comply with federal and state regulations.
  • Manage all Special Education paperwork, including IEPs, 504s, and progress reports, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Maintain regular communication with students’ parents/guardians and families.
