About The Position

The Reading Instructor provides academic instruction to students in accordance with approved curricula and gives basic direction in compliance with government and management directives. The instructor works with students with different skill levels and needs, using classroom accommodations where needed. This is a year-round program at the Edison Point Job Corps Center in Edison, New Jersey.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
Valid teaching certificate.
Experience with youth.
Strong communication skills and ability to multitask.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with students at different levels and with different needs.
Ability to implement classroom accommodations for students who need them.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
One year of instructional experience is preferred.
Experience with computer-based platforms such as Blackboard.

Responsibilities

Motivate and counsel students regarding behavior, training, personal problems, and study habits; coordinate with other staff to address issues affecting student training.
Develop and prepare lessons, and recommend curriculum changes and supplemental materials.
Use workplace language and behavioral expectations in the classroom and regularly connect academic skills to career technical training and workplace requirements.
Ask students whether they need assistance.
Regularly review and audit assigned areas for contractual compliance and effective service delivery; prepare related reports.
Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
Administer and correct tests, and maintain student progress and attendance reports.
Provide basic direction to students in compliance with government and management directives.
