About The Position

The Bank Street School for Children seeks a dedicated instructor to lead small-group guided reading sessions for students in grades 1 - 4. This part-time role focuses on delivering responsive, engaging reading instruction to students who benefit from targeted small-group support. Working under the direction of the Director of Learning and Student Support, and in collaboration with classroom teachers, the Reading Groups Instructor plans and implements lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners in each group. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about early literacy development and enjoys working with small groups of students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Literacy, Special Education, or a related field, OR current enrollment in a graduate teaching program in Literacy, Special Education, or a related Elementary Education field
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Knowledge of and commitment to progressive, child-centered education
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion
  • Desire to be part of an innovative, collaborative team that has a measurable impact on student achievement
  • Willingness to implement instruction and share practices alongside a wide range of colleagues

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree specifically in Literacy or Reading
  • Experience administering and analyzing literacy assessments (running records, phonics, and phonemic awareness)
  • Experience with structured literacy programs such as Fundations
  • Familiarity with Bank Street’s progressive, child-centered approach to education

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver small-group reading lessons for students in grades 1 - 4, tailored to meet the needs and reading skills of each group
  • Implement reading strategies and instructional approaches aligned with age-level curriculum and school guidelines
  • Create a supportive, engaging learning environment that builds students' confidence and love of reading
  • Support small groups of children on literacy skills that need additional support
  • Communicate with classroom teachers about student progress and group activities
  • Maintain accurate records of lessons and student attendance
  • Writing Reports for conferences and report cards
  • Support the school's commitment to progressive, equity-centered education
  • Complete additional duties such as class coverages as assigned by supervisor
