About The Position

The District Reading Coach provides instructional coaching and professional learning to strengthen literacy instruction across Tucson Unified School District. The coach supports teachers, interventionists, school leaders, and instructional teams in implementing the District Literacy Framework, Science of Reading-aligned evidence-based practices, high-quality Tier 1 instruction, intervention, and data-informed decision making. The District Reading Coach builds educator capacity through classroom-based coaching, modeling, co-planning, observation, feedback, professional development, and analysis of student data. School assignments and levels of support will be determined based on district priorities, student achievement data, and identified instructional needs.

Requirements

  • Appropriate Arizona Teaching Certificate WITH Reading Specialist, K-12 endorsement
  • Structured English Immersion (SEI) requirement.
  • Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Minimum three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing evidence-based reading instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, including structured literacy practices in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, oral language, comprehension, and knowledge building.
  • Experience using assessment data to inform instruction and intervention.
  • Experience with instructional coaching, mentoring, professional learning, or teacher leadership.
  • Availability to work flexible hours as needed, to include evenings and weekends.
  • Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in education, literacy, reading, curriculum and instruction, or related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience coaching teachers in the implementation of Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
  • Experience coaching or providing professional learning to adult learners.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of Tucson Unified School District curriculum, assessment systems, and instructional priorities.
