About The Position

This position is a 0.5 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) role for a 3rd-4th Grade REACH Gifted Education Teacher at Madison Elementary School District. It is a job-sharing position, meaning this role will be shared with another 0.5 FTE teacher. The REACH (Rigorous, Enriched, Accelerated Curriculum for the Highly Gifted) program is designed for highly gifted students in grades 1-4, allowing them to function at an academic level commensurate with their abilities. These students typically work two grade levels ahead and explore subjects in greater depth. Students develop individualized educational plans in areas of interest, which they research and present orally and in writing. The teacher will collaborate with site administrators and other teachers to provide supplemental support for advanced student achievement through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support, utilizing both content replacement and push-in program models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Appropriately Certified

  • Three or more years of teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Create and evaluate programming for gifted and talented populations.
  • Possess and apply knowledge of the educational needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil receiving gifted instruction.
  • Task analyze and translate lessons into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Teach district-approved curriculum.
  • Use effective Classroom Management techniques.
  • Establish, share, and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  • Teach curriculum aligned to state standards and student needs.
  • Coplan with colleagues to implement instructional practices to support gifted learners in a transdisciplinary approach.
  • Effectively utilize district technologies appropriate to the position and assume responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.
  • Identification of gifted and talented students in an annual cycle and as required for transfer students.
  • Anticipate and effectively address unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Comply with State Law and District policies and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
