About The Position

The RCFE Activity Assistant provides therapeutic activities to residents that are designed to meet their interests and to improve the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Assist residents to maintain life-long interests and self-esteem while promoting physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One year experience in a long-term geriatric setting or experience providing activities is preferred.
  • Ability to receive and maintain a California Background Clearance through the Department of Social Services.
  • Must maintain current First Aid certification
  • Must maintain current CPR or BLS certification
  • Bright, cheerful, motivating attitude.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Maintain a well-groomed professional appearance.
  • Effective use of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Displays good judgment and problem solving.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and/or verbal directions.
  • Ability to establish and carry out priorities within established time frame.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
  • The Department of Social Services licensing agency requires the taking of fingerprints and an affidavit on criminal convictions be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The Department of Social Services will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. An approval must be obtained prior to being present in the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior customer service experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a medical field is a plus.
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) preferred.
  • Fluency in other languages are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Promote, coordinate, prepare and carry out individual and group activities that meet the functional levels, needs and interests of each resident.
  • Ensure that all residents are informed of activities, that staff encourage participation, and that transportation is provided when needed
  • Provide bedside activities for residents that reflect interests of residents, offered at convenient times that appeal to men and women, and include special and seasonal events
  • Adapt activities to match the cognitive and physical functional levels of the residents through the use of task segmentation, verbal prompts, set-up assistance, physical assists and demonstrations
  • Assist in the development and distribution of the monthly activity calendar and newsletter
  • Able to express self adequately in written and/or oral communications.
  • Ability to interact effectively, motivate and engage residents, provide leadership and act as a role model for residents and facility staff
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity, and individuality of each resident in all interactions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident and facility information.
  • Promotes the highest possible quality of life and level of independence for every resident.
  • Acts as a resident advocate when necessary and is a mandated reporter of abuse.
  • Maintain current knowledge of resident status, special needs, and other relevant information that may impact the activity program.
  • Facilitate orientation in activities and using calendars, bulletin boards, music, seasonal and holiday decorations
  • Monitor physical environment for safety hazards.
  • Maintain activity equipment and supplies in the proper storage areas.
  • Maintains activity space in a clean and orderly manner that appears homelike and is safe for residents.
  • Compliance with the department safety program, hazard communication and infection control.
  • Follow facility procedures for hand washing, standard precautions, and personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of infection and promote environmental health
  • Current knowledge of and compliance with all applicable facility policies, procedures, and licensing regulations.
  • Knowledge of emergency and disaster plan.
  • Ability to remain calm and direct others in case of emergency.
  • Provide first aid, as necessary.
  • Sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times.
  • Attends required orientation, training, and on-going in-service education program.
  • Actively participates in the education process to ensure appropriate content is presented and incorporates information into daily routine.
  • Assist with on-the-job orientation for volunteers and new employees.
  • Successfully complete training requirements required by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Regulations and NEMS Assisted Living in a timely manner
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
