About The Position

The ASR Group family of companies is the world's largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, producing a full line of grocery, industrial, foodservice, and specialty sweetener products. They operate multiple sugar refineries across North America and Europe, and farm sugarcane and own sugar mills in Mexico and Belize. Their portfolio includes well-known brands such as Domino®, C&H®, Florida Crystals®, Redpath®, Tate & Lyle®, Lyle's®, Sidul®, and Whitworths®. ASR Group also produces Tellus®, a compostable tableware product made from plant fibers. This role is for an engineer or technologist with leadership experience in a fast-paced, complex manufacturing operation. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and a drive for continuous improvement. They should be able to recognize and implement improvement opportunities independently and as part of a team with members at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Recognized technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the theory/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations; continuous improvement; statistics and analytical methods; process measurement and control; mechanical aptitude; troubleshooting; ability to understand and apply general engineering principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams to challenge the status quo to achieve operational improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and quickly implement their strategy.
  • Proficient skills specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Fundamental understanding of food standards, safety and sanitary regulations, and good manufacturing practices.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. degree (or technology diploma) in Engineering, Process Science or related field from an accredited college/university.
  • 5+ years of experience in Process engineering/technology, Process development, quality engineering, or manufacturing.
  • A demonstrated ability to select and apply sound engineering practices and principles to the design and development of high volume consumer products Process.
  • Strong background and proven results in Leading Continuous Improvement efforts through the application of Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma Activities.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and implementing improvements in process equipment throughput, quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Working closely with operational personnel to understand problems, perform troubleshooting, and develop solutions.
  • Using continuous improvement skills to enhance system reliability and identify/implement productivity and cost improvements, including new technologies.
  • Developing and improving procedures and instructions to maximize bulk and liquid loading production scheduling and overall loading operations, including process aid consumption.
  • Coordinating the arrival and offloading of raw sugar vessels, tracking downtime, and implementing actions to improve efficiency.
  • Demonstrating a thorough understanding of the interactions between machine, materials, methods, environment, and people to provide robust operating systems.
  • Providing key technical support in capital projects and new product and process equipment testing/start-ups, ensuring safety and quality aspects meet company requirements.
  • Providing documentation, operator, and maintenance training and support.
  • Designing and developing capital projects for new equipment installation when applicable.
  • Partnering with the engineering team to ensure all preventive maintenance is done in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
