Raw Receiving Operator- Days
About The Position
The Raw Receiving Operator is responsible for receiving and unloading incoming raw potatoes at Michael Foods’ Mars Hill, Maine facility. The role involves operating and maintaining potato unloading equipment, directing the correct potato variety and quantity to the appropriate storage bin, inspecting incoming loads and equipment, conducting required tests, and documenting results and losses. The operator helps prevent foreign material and nonconforming product from entering the plant, communicates delivery or product concerns, and coordinates information with coworkers across shifts. The position requires following safety, food safety, quality, GMP, and sanitation procedures; maintaining a clean work area; and reporting conditions that could affect product quality, food safety, or employee safety. The operator is also accountable for supporting a safe and healthy workplace and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence and write simple correspondence.
- Ability to communicate basic English verbally and in writing, including understanding and communicating safety instructions, rules, and warnings in normal and emergency situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and work with measurements of weight, volume, and distance.
- Ability to solve problems, gather relevant information and facts, interpret written, oral, diagram-based, or scheduled instructions, and handle a variety of situations.
- Basic computer skills.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in raw receiving.
- Prior machine operating experience.
- Forklift certification or license.
- Pallet jack certification or license.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain potato unloading equipment.
- Ensure the correct potato variety and quantity are directed to the correct storage bin.
- Conduct visual inspections and pre-operational audits of unloading equipment and storage bins according to departmental procedures.
- Minimize recovery loss during unloading and accurately document losses.
- Understand the truck delivery schedule and communicate schedule problems.
- Perform pre-dump inspections of potato loads and totes, and report product that does not meet acceptance criteria to the Supervisor and Manager.
- Perform required Raw Receiving tests and complete paperwork accurately.
- Ensure foreign material is removed during unloading; communicate unusual findings to a supervisor, segregate affected potatoes, and prevent them from entering the plant.
- Communicate relevant information to coworkers on the shift and to employees coming on shift.
- Clean equipment and maintain good housekeeping in the raw receiving area.
- Follow safe work practices and GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and protect product quality.
- Report conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health into all jobs and tasks.
- Perform other duties specified by departmental procedures or assigned.
