About The Position

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Women's Services- Mary's Place/West Ave. The successful candidate will extend our mission to residential and non-residential clients through the provision of respectful and appropriate housing support and diversion services. This will include assessment, diversion planning, case management, crisis intervention and supportive counseling. The incumbent must be able to work independently in a challenging and rewarding values-based environment.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Social Service or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 1-years related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field.
  • Understand and utilize person-directed, anti-racism/anti-oppression and feminist frameworks with a thorough understanding of a range of issues including chronic homelessness, poverty, abuse, mental health and addictions.
  • Commitment to and experience working within a trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first framework.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required.
  • Valid G license, willingness and ability to drive company vehicle is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1-year experience working in community outreach or emergency shelter setting preferred.
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide brief mobile case management and diversion services to individuals at imminent risk of homelessness, aimed at helping them avoid the need to access emergency shelter.
  • Work collaboratively with shelter staff in completing assessments for shelter eligibility, plan intakes, and make referrals to overflow spaces as needed.
  • Partner with various agencies to leverage and coordinate assets and services to ensure that service users have their individualized housing and support needs met.
  • The work takes place in the office, in emergency shelters, and in the community.
  • Accompany service users to community and housing appointments and apartment viewings.
  • Must be willing and able to assist service users in a hands-on capacity.
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
