About The Position

The Range Safety Specialist reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Project Manager. The Range Safety Specialist shall provide management and operational support of Marine Corps ranges with knowledgeable personnel to provide the expertise and capability necessary to analyze, execute and better implement and provide an efficient, effective training program addressing aviation operations, for current and future capabilities, including but not limited to specific disciplines in the following:

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is the minimum acceptable education.
  • Required: Range Safety distance learning course (MarineNet).
  • One year of Range Safety experience with two years of military experience.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to design, write, and present training programs.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.
  • All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position.

  • Graduate of the Range Airspace Manager Course (preferred).
  • The ideal candidate is a former SNCO or Officer who has experience as a Range Safety Officer or Officer in Charge.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical knowledge of Marine Corps Aviation Range Safety in accordance with (IAW) MCO 3570.1D to ensure the deconfliction of aviation range training and other activities occurring on a range or ranges within the Marine Corps.
  • Provide technical knowledge and expertise of multi-service air to ground weapons and delivery characteristics.
  • Provide technical knowledge and expertise concerning the RMTK Weapon Danger Zone (WDZ) Tool IAW MCO 3570.1D to ensure that the relationship between the RMTK danger zones and range certifications are understood and can be depicted within the Marine Corps Range Safety program.
  • Provide technical knowledge and expertise of Marine Corps range safety policy and how that policy relates to Department of Defense (DoD) policy concerning air to ground munitions.
  • Review, analyze, and recommend solutions involving National Airspace and Military Operating Areas, Marine Corps Training requirements and military or civilian interface issues.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support review and analysis of RTAM aviation training and special use air space projects for compliance with MCO 3550.10 and make recommendations to ensure and advise on RTAM and Installation Range Management plans, programmatic and training implementation, development and management of current and future operational aviation range policies and programs are IAW MCO 3550.10.
  • Provide knowledge and expertise concerning location and size of training related danger zones (i.e. surface danger zones, weapon danger zones, explosive danger zones, laser surface danger zones, and noise areas) and how danger zones relate to the context of other installation features (boundaries, areas of critical concern etc.).
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the development and implementation of aviation range safety air to ground operational training range policies and programs and for the planning and execution of aviation training on operational ranges.
  • Provide expertise in the planning and execution of aviation range safety as it pertains to aviation range certification IAW MCO 3550.9A.
  • Develop updated aviation range safety guidance and provide SOUM and LRSR draft IAW MCO 3570.1D.
  • Prepare a report and assist the COR with tier 1 and 2 help desk support for the RMTK suite of tools. Tier 1 support is defined as the initial support level responsible for basic customer issues. It is synonymous with first-line support, level 1 support, front-end support, support line 1, and various other headings denoting basic level technical support functions. Tier 2 support is defined as a more in-depth technical support level than Tier 1 and therefore costs more as the techs are more experienced and knowledgeable on a particular product or service. It is synonymous with level 2 support, support line 2, administrative level support, and various other headings denoting advanced technical troubleshooting and analysis methods.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the development, implementation, and revision of ARSP-1, 2, and 3.
