About The Position

We are seeking a Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) to perform on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. This role involves job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication, and ensuring on-track safety in controlled and non-controlled areas.

Requirements

Able to complete required physical demands and/or tasks.
Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains.
Understand the on-track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected.
Proficient in radio procedures for communication between RWIC/EIC’s and assigned work groups.
Proficient in performing a job briefing with all roadway workers within their work location.
Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device.
Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text, as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a RWIC while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad.
Successful outcome of pre-employment and recurring background checks, and drug and alcohol testing.
Successful completion of classroom and field training, including assessments.
Successful completion of all onboarding and recurring training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.

Responsibilities

Provide required jobsite protection, error-free and consistent with rules, including radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, and granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed.
Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure adherence to safety requirements.
Prepare and submit required electronic forms, including job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports.
Handle and place signs, derails, and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds.
Actively participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
Maintain a high level of communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.

Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.
