About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Railroad Maintenance Superintendent to oversee track maintenance operations across our Baton Rouge/New Orleans territory. This role is responsible for leading maintenance-of-way (MOW) crews, ensuring compliance with FRA regulations, managing project schedules and budgets, and maintaining the safety and reliability of rail infrastructure across the assigned territory. This is a leadership position requiring strong technical knowledge of track structures combined with proven people-management skills.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in railroad track maintenance, with at least 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
Strong working knowledge of FRA Track Safety Standards and railroad maintenance-of-way practices
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage unionized and/or diverse crews
Experience managing budgets, labor planning, and material logistics
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proficiency with maintenance management software and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, etc.)
Willingness to travel within the Baton Rouge/New Orleans territory and work variable hours, including nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs
Valid driver's license required
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check

Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, and oversee daily maintenance and repair activities for track, and related infrastructure across the territory
Supervise multiple track maintenance crews and foremen, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management
Ensure all work complies with FRA Track Safety Standards, company safety policies, and applicable regulations
Conduct or oversee regular track inspections; identify defects and prioritize repairs based on safety and operational risk
Manage maintenance project budgets, labor allocation, equipment usage, and material procurement
Coordinate track outages and maintenance windows with train operations/dispatch to minimize service disruption
Investigate incidents, derailments, or safety violations and implement corrective action plans
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and crew activities in compliance with regulatory and company standards
Build and maintain positive relationships with union representatives, local officials, contractors, and other stakeholders
Respond to emergency track conditions or service disruptions, including after-hours and weekend call-outs as needed
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices across all crews
