About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Railroad Maintenance Superintendent to oversee track maintenance operations across our Baton Rouge/New Orleans territory. This role is responsible for leading maintenance-of-way (MOW) crews, ensuring compliance with FRA regulations, managing project schedules and budgets, and maintaining the safety and reliability of rail infrastructure across the assigned territory. This is a leadership position requiring strong technical knowledge of track structures combined with proven people-management skills.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in railroad track maintenance, with at least 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
  • Strong working knowledge of FRA Track Safety Standards and railroad maintenance-of-way practices
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage unionized and/or diverse crews
  • Experience managing budgets, labor planning, and material logistics
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with maintenance management software and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel within the Baton Rouge/New Orleans territory and work variable hours, including nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily maintenance and repair activities for track, and related infrastructure across the territory
  • Supervise multiple track maintenance crews and foremen, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management
  • Ensure all work complies with FRA Track Safety Standards, company safety policies, and applicable regulations
  • Conduct or oversee regular track inspections; identify defects and prioritize repairs based on safety and operational risk
  • Manage maintenance project budgets, labor allocation, equipment usage, and material procurement
  • Coordinate track outages and maintenance windows with train operations/dispatch to minimize service disruption
  • Investigate incidents, derailments, or safety violations and implement corrective action plans
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and crew activities in compliance with regulatory and company standards
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with union representatives, local officials, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Respond to emergency track conditions or service disruptions, including after-hours and weekend call-outs as needed
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices across all crews
