About The Position

As a railroad track Boom Truck Operator, you will be proficient in safely operating crane truck on both rubber tires and rails. Hi-Rail Boom Trucks are designed for heavy lifting and material handling on railroad tracks, and ensuring safety is paramount. You'll work as part of a team to build and maintain railways across various locations in Canada. Your responsibilities will include running machinery, assisting with labor tasks as needed, and performing daily inspections and minor repairs.

Requirements

  • Valid Full Class 3a Driver’s License: You’ll need a valid Class 3 driver’s license at minimum plus a clean drivers abstract to operate company vehicles.
  • Valid Boom / Crane qualifications
  • Minimum 1 season experience operating the HyRail Boom Truck (Boom Truck on the railroad track, not wheels)
  • Willingness to invest 8 inch work boots.
  • Pass criminal record check and drug and fitness screening, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work as labourer when required.
  • Pass all required railway operating rules examinations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote work locations as needed.
  • Be prepared to work all shifts.
  • Support yourself until your first paycheck arrives.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate crane/boom trucks
  • Ensure safety is a priority to self, fellow workers, the general public and the assets of the company and following policies and procedures set out by the company
  • Operate crane truck as per operator manual
  • Daily walk around inspection of machine, general housekeeping of machine and minor repairs to machine when necessary to ensure safe operation
  • Daily administration of log books, job briefings etc.
  • Compliance to track rules and instructions according to CROR
  • Assist with manual labour when necessary
  • Communicate effectively over radio
  • Meet productivity level requirements set out by supervisors/foremen
