A significant portion of the work, approximately 30%, involves welding, fabrication, and the use of a cutting torch. The role also requires performing mechanical labor for about 95% of the time, including repairing and maintaining railcars according to blueprints and specifications using various tools. The Railcar Repairman will also operate a forklift, measure, cut, and replace air lines, assemble subassemblies and major components, and test for proper operation. Additionally, the role involves entering car repair information via an electronic keyboard system.
