About The Position

The Railcar Loader is responsible for loading railcars with salt at our transload facilities. The incumbent operates rail and transloading equipment, including rail line switches, rail spur line, portable rail undercar conveyor, belt conveyor and super B trailer hopper. The role requires operating railcars and trailers safely and in accordance with policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The ideal candidate is safety-focused, adaptable, and competent in equipment operation and basic maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely and follow SOPs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience loading or moving railcars is considered an asset.
  • Flexible mindset with willingness to assist in yard and facility housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the work area.
  • Adhere to all safety and site rules, including seatbelt use, travel routes, speed limits, situational awareness, fall-arrest harnesses, use of wheel chocks, etc.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Operate rail and transloading equipment including, but not limited to rail line switches, rail spur line, portable rail undercar conveyor, belt conveyor and super B trailer hopper.
  • Record railcar numbers and contaminants on the daily railcar information sheet and provide it to the office.
  • Clean up any spilled salt and ensure proper disposal.
  • Ensure dust collection systems are functioning properly; report any issues to the Superintendent.
  • Ensure rail cars are loaded within capacity. Ensure leaking railcars do not leave the siding.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of production areas, yard, and facilities.
  • Complete equipment checklists, inspections, and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
  • Report equipment issues or malfunctions to the Superintendent or Plant Manager.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and investigations.
  • Complete required safety and equipment training or retraining.
  • Use all required safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
