About The Position

Black & McDonald’s Civil Utilities team is growing! If you are a committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you. The Rail Signals & Communications Foreperson is located in the GTA and typically reports directly to the Manager. Their primary focus is installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Signals & Communications equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge of basic electronics and electrical fundamentals, particularly low-voltage AC and DC circuits, relay or ladder logic.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Foreperson in Signals & Communications
  • Additional 7 years of experience in S&C
  • Must be able to read wiring diagrams and use various testing equipment such as multi-meter, megger and short finder
  • Knowledge of rail operations and railroad signaling principles
  • Strong time management, initiative and ability to work independently
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel for long periods of time
  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Climb ladders and cantilever signals
  • Working outside in variable weather conditions
  • MS Office software proficiency
  • Willing and able to travel in and around the GTA and Southern Ontario
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License
  • Security Clearance required
  • Criminal Background Check and Professional Reference Check will be required
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Test, maintain and improve grade crossing warning, AEI, or defect detector systems
  • Loading and unloading tools and equipment to and from various vehicles and machines
  • Comply with CROR standards around signaling as well as Hours-of-Service Law
  • Collaborate with local railroad customers, suppliers and stakeholders
  • Conduct themselves in a safe manner
  • Travel to various sites across the GTA and Southern Ontario
  • On-call responsibilities to respond to dispatch and Trouble Calls
  • Site and ground clearing for site access as necessary
  • Digging holes and trenches for cables, conduit and ducts
  • Installing and levelling foundations
