About The Position

Primarily responsible for moving railcars within the yard, positioning them for loading, and unloading using specific equipment. The role ensures the efficient movement of railcars within the yard while adhering to safety guidelines and operational standards. The operator must communicate effectively with other yard personnel and ensure the proper alignment of railcars and tracks.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years rail operations experience, including experience operating a locomotive.
Functional understanding of the processes, procedures, and safety requirements necessary for working in a rail yard and operating a locomotive.
Proficient computer skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Good math, language, and reading skills.
Functional knowledge of a warehouse environment.
Considerate and respectful to coworkers.
Able to follow instructions given for daily tasks.

Nice To Haves

Experience using railcar management and warehouse management systems a plus.

Responsibilities

Moving railcars within the yard, positioning them for loading and unloading using specific equipment.
Ensuring efficient movement of railcars within the yard while adhering to safety guidelines and operational standards.
Communicating effectively with other yard personnel.
Ensuring proper alignment of railcars and tracks.
Operating specific equipment for movements (Rail King).
Inspecting tracks and equipment for safety hazards.
Completing intra-yard railcar switches to supplement TGS in conjunction with the Rail Lead.
Monitoring railcar placement in Ravago’s yard and reporting railcar activity and locations back to the Rail Manager.
Serving as backup to the Lead and switchman.
Coordinating with the Rail Lead to ensure rail equipment is kept in working condition.
Executing assignments in an accurate, timely, and safe manner.
Supporting blending and packaging operations during any downtime by connecting hoses, collecting samples, building boxes, etc.
Performing any additional duties as assigned by the Rail Manager or Operations Manager.
