About The Position

Transports patients in an efficient, safe and timely manner within the fast-paced Radiology Department. This is a full-time position with day and afternoon shifts. The role involves preparing equipment and rooms, assisting with patient transfers using wheelchairs, carts, and beds, and transporting patients to and from various hospital areas. The transporter also handles oxygen tanks, maintains cleanliness of equipment and work areas, and addresses issues that arise during their duties. They must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care and provide professional, courteous service while maintaining confidentiality. The position requires proper tracking and logging in computer systems and communicating pertinent patient information. Employees are responsible for safeguarding patient rights and respecting patient needs. In-service and educational programs are also required.

Requirements

  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to exert 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual acuity must be within normal ranges.
  • Must be able to position, lift, move patients of all weights with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties throughout the work shift.
  • Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital.
  • Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests.
  • Must have strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations performs under pressure.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong problem solving skills and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares equipment and room for transportation of patient.
  • Assists with the transfer of patients utilizing wheelchairs, carts, and beds to and from nursing units, ancillary testing, departments, clinic areas and vehicles in a safe, courteous and timely manner.

  • Transfers oxygen tanks from storage area to transport devises (wheelchairs, cart and bed).
  • Provides scheduled designated services for Radiology, Fast Track, Emergency Department and other areas as directed.
  • Maintains cleanliness of carts, wheelchairs and work area with wipes provided.
  • Attends CPR class annually for infants, children and adults.
  • Addresses problems which occur during the regular performance of duties with Director, Manager and or Nurses.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned by Director.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Provides and gives professional, cooperative and courteous service to patients, visitors, telephone callers, medical/dental staff, and fellow employees, while maintaining confidentiality of patient, employee and hospital information at all times.
  • Performs proper tracking/logging in the directed computer systems and communicates pertinent patient information to technologists.
  • Each employee has a fundamental responsibility to safeguard patients' rights and demonstrate respect for such patient needs as confidentiality, privacy, security, complaint resolution, spiritual counseling, and communication.
  • Attends in-services and other educational programs as required.
