About The Position

The Radiology Technologist is responsible for determining the appropriate radiological technique and position for patients, utilizing immobilization and support devices. They operate radiology equipment appropriately, positioning patients, adjusting equipment, and securing support devices as needed to perform procedures tactfully. The technologist determines the appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and the patient's condition to obtain quality films for radiologists and secures patient history regarding the reason for the prescribed test. Adherence to all accepted safety standards and practices is crucial to ensure patient safety and quality patient care, including using universal precautions, maintaining compliance with safety standards for patient and staff protection (e.g., appropriate patient shielding), maintaining an exposure badge, and ensuring supplies and cleanliness of the assigned room daily. They administer CPR as necessary, assure the accuracy of the examination performed and requisition, and are familiar with MSDS information for chemicals used in the department. Clerical duties include maintaining patient records, daily statistics, answering telephones, scheduling examinations, and providing instructions to patients. The role also involves coordinating quality control tasks, including inventorying supplies, labeling radiology images, preparing contrast media, performing daily sensitometry of processors, checking film quality, performing quality control activities, responding to inquiries, coordinating patient flow, and communicating with providers to ensure timely exam completion. Additionally, the Radiology Tech performs all lab assistant duties and is trained in Urine Drug and Breath Alcohol Testing.

Requirements

• IDNS license.
• Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology
• Knowledge of Health Information System.
• Basic knowledge of radiology equipment.
• CPR certification
• Licensed by IDNS.
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registered (ARRT)
• Able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high quality patient care.
• High degree of technical skills
• Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities.
• Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
• Ability to lift and/or move patients.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions, in difficult situations.
• Ability to work during site hours of operation.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patient appropriately and provides excellent care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Inventories supplies and maintains adequate stock.
• Labels radiology images according to department standards and criteria.
• Prepares contrast media as necessary following department standards and manufacturers recommendations.
• Performs daily sensitometry of processors; assists in performance of annual inspections.
• Checks film quality and ensures proper and correct labeling is provided.
• Performs quality control activities, responds to inquires, coordinates patient flow and communicates with provider to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
• Prepares radiology rooms daily.
• Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental/center procedures.
• Performs orders management tracking functions.
• Performs all lab assistant duties.
• Trained by Federal Standards in Urine Drug and Breath Alcohol Testing.
