About The Position

The Radiology Technologist (PRN) is responsible for interviewing patients to obtain medical history, informing them about safety procedures and contrast media contraindications, and explaining examination protocols. This role ensures compliance with all state, federal, and accrediting body standards in radiology. Key duties include maintaining the cleanliness of X-ray equipment, proper handling of biohazardous materials, and ensuring patient and employee safety through competent use of all equipment and safety measures. This involves posting radiation safety signs, monitoring dosimeter badges, and accurately documenting radiation exposure. The technologist will position patients correctly for scans, provide clear instructions, and accurately enter patient information into the computer system, selecting and executing appropriate protocols within specified timeframes. Safe transportation of equipment and patients is crucial to prevent injury and equipment damage. The role requires producing high-quality images for radiologist interpretation, completing archiving responsibilities, and performing duties as an X-ray, C-arm fluoroscopy, CT, and procedure technologist based on competencies and certifications. Additionally, the technologist must apply age-specific care concepts in interactions with patients and families.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Minimum of two (2) years as a technologist in a surgical setting.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible and licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
  • Computer skills needed.
  • Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients for the purpose of obtaining patient history and informing patients regarding patient safety, contrast media contraindications and patient procedures.
  • Demonstrates compliance with state, federal and accrediting body standard in radiology.
  • Demonstrates proper cleaning x-ray equipment and proper handling of biohazard materials.
  • Assures patient and employee safety through competency in the use of all equipment and safety equipment including, but not limited to, posting of the radiation safety signs, monitoring of dosimeter badges, proper documentation of radiation exposure according to policy and procedures.
  • Positions patients appropriately in the scanner; provides instructions related to breathing, communication, observation and length of sequences.
  • Enters required patient information accurately into the computer; selects appropriate protocol and scans patients in accordance with protocol within acceptable time frames; makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Transports equipment and patients in a safe manner to prevent injury to self, patients or employees and prevent damage to equipment.
  • Produces images in accordance with optimum imaging standards for radiologist interpretation.
  • Completes archiving responsibilities on each patient.
  • Performs assigned responsibilities as X-ray, C-arm fluoroscopy, CT, and procedure technologist as necessary based on competencies and certifications.
  • Utilizes concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
