About The Position

Mary Immaculate Hospital is a community hospital located in Newport News, VA, specializing in a wide array of imaging services including emergency services, cardiovascular imaging, and interventional radiology. The hospital is undergoing an expansion project to add a new inpatient wing, increasing its capacity for acute care services. The Radiology Technologist is a certified health professional responsible for applying diagnostic imaging techniques safely and effectively using ionizing radiation, under the direction of an authorized user. The role welcomes students, new graduates, and experienced technologists, offering cross-training opportunities for career growth within the Imaging department.

Requirements

  • Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required)

  • Associates from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute

  • 1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care
  • Experience with Radiology Information System

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient's clinical history and appropriate lab work, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Performs radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment and/or associated accessories.
  • Verifies informed consent and completes pre and post procedure documentation.
  • Assists licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures.
  • Applies appropriate aseptic surgical technique as needed.
