About The Position

Performs radiologic exams and procedures, ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality. The role involves efficient patient care that meets infection control standards and service excellence. The technologist is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of radiologic equipment and staying current with its use.

Requirements

  • 2 years of clinical training in an AMA approved program
  • Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
  • American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
  • Current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT)
  • New Graduates Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and health care providers.
  • Examines radiographic requisitions to verify accuracy, confirming the procedure requested with doctor's orders and completeness of information.
  • Confirms patient identity.
  • Gathers information pertinent to determining appropriate type and dosage of contrast agent and evaluates risk of adverse reaction.
  • Provides pre and post-procedural explanations and instructions to patients and/or their families.
  • Ensures all work areas and equipment are clean, disinfected, and presentable.
  • Disposes of contaminated items in the exam room.
  • Responsible for efficient and accurate use of Radiology Information System and Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS).
  • Observes and adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and departmental and hospital policies.
  • Takes appropriate precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patients and self.
  • Wears a personnel monitoring device while on duty (ALARA).
  • Selects equipment and accessories for requested examinations, as well as immobility devices for optimal image production.
  • Evaluates radiographic images for diagnostic quality and processes exposed images.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Performs duties of Radiology Transporter when necessary.
