About The Position

The Radiology Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the x-ray equipment in order to obtain diagnostic images. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology program.
  • ARRT or registry eligible required.
  • Registry eligible technologists must successfully complete the ARRT certification exam in Radiology within 12 months of hire.
  • Applicable state licensure as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of radiographic equipment and accessories.
  • Analytical ability and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient's age-specific needs.
  • Ability to interpret information to identify patient's age-specific requirements for care.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Capable of functioning alone in diagnostic rooms.
  • Working knowledge of various types of x-ray equipment.
  • Able to adapt to various situations and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.
  • Constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. (use Safe Handling Equipment for over 35 lbs.).

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology preferred.
  • May require the use of safety equipment, such as HEPA mask, for infection prevention.
  • On call responsibilities as directed.
  • Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures.
  • Operates x-ray equipment to obtain diagnostic images.
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
  • Explains procedures and post-procedure orders to patients.
  • Prioritizes workflow based on patient condition and ensures timely patient flow.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to patient cooperation and confidence.
  • Utilizes patient satisfaction and practice performance data for improvement.
  • Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions.
  • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
  • Provides clean linen.
  • Cleans spills following universal precautions.
  • Properly stores accessory equipment.
  • Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment.
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
  • Adjusts cameras to obtain proper density and contrast.
  • Performs warm-up and quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
  • Critiques images for quality and determines if repeats are necessary.
  • May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
