Radiology Technologist (PRN)
About The Position
The Radiology Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the x-ray equipment in order to obtain diagnostic images. Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an accredited Radiology program.
- ARRT or registry eligible required.
- Registry eligible technologists must successfully complete the ARRT certification exam in Radiology within 12 months of hire.
- Applicable state licensure as required.
- Thorough knowledge of radiographic equipment and accessories.
- Analytical ability and basic computer skills.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient's age-specific needs.
- Ability to interpret information to identify patient's age-specific requirements for care.
- Good communication skills.
- Capable of functioning alone in diagnostic rooms.
- Working knowledge of various types of x-ray equipment.
- Able to adapt to various situations and procedures.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.
- Constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping.
- Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
- Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. (use Safe Handling Equipment for over 35 lbs.).
Nice To Haves
- 2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology preferred.
- May require the use of safety equipment, such as HEPA mask, for infection prevention.
- On call responsibilities as directed.
- Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.
Responsibilities
- Assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
- Prepares the patient for procedures.
- Operates x-ray equipment to obtain diagnostic images.
- Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
- Explains procedures and post-procedure orders to patients.
- Prioritizes workflow based on patient condition and ensures timely patient flow.
- Provides an atmosphere conducive to patient cooperation and confidence.
- Utilizes patient satisfaction and practice performance data for improvement.
- Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions.
- Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
- Provides clean linen.
- Cleans spills following universal precautions.
- Properly stores accessory equipment.
- Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
- Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
- Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
- Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment.
- Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
- Adjusts cameras to obtain proper density and contrast.
- Performs warm-up and quality control procedures on equipment.
- Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
- Critiques images for quality and determines if repeats are necessary.
- May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
