Radiology Technologist - Maryview Medical Center
About The Position
The Radiology Technologist is a certified health professional who, under the direction of an authorized user, applies diagnostic imaging skills using ionizing radiation safely and effectively. The role is based in Diagnostic Radiology at Maryview Medical Center and focuses on patient-centered imaging and care. The technologist obtains relevant patient history and lab information, positions and immobilizes patients appropriately, and applies radiation-protection principles. The role involves selecting and operating imaging equipment, completing required procedure documentation, assisting with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures, applying aseptic technique when needed, performing timeouts as required, and preparing or administering prescribed medications or contrast.
Requirements
- Certification and registration with ARRT in Diagnostic Radiology.
- BLS Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association is preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH; for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations, it is required at hire.
- Patient-centered care, attention to detail, critical thinking, communication, conflict resolution, active listening, and relationship-building skills.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree from an ARRT-accredited institute.
- State licensure, unless required by the state where the job is performed.
- One year of experience in radiation safety and patient care.
- Experience with a Radiology Information System.
- Training in EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Training in a picture archiving communication system (PACS).
Responsibilities
- Obtain the patient’s clinical history and appropriate lab work, ensuring information is documented and available to a licensed practitioner.
- Position and immobilize patients to demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting their ability and comfort.
- Apply radiation-protection principles to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
- Select and operate imaging equipment and associated accessories to perform radiographic procedures.
- Verify informed consent and complete pre- and post-procedure documentation.
- Assist licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures.
- Apply appropriate aseptic surgical technique as needed.
- Perform timeouts as required by policy.
- Identify, prepare, and/or administer medications or contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Monitor patient conditions during examinations and record patient medical histories.
- Work within an interdisciplinary team and communicate with patients.
