About The Position

This is a Part-time, 2nd shift position for a Radiology Technologist II at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The role involves operating x-ray equipment to produce radiographs, performing and documenting diagnostic procedures, and ensuring quality studies. The technologist will be knowledgeable in the operation of various radiography equipment, including general radiography, portable, fluoro, C-arm, and O-arm. They will adhere to infection prevention, ALARA principles, and proper patient identification. The position requires obtaining patient history, explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort, and reviewing radiographs for quality. The technologist will also report equipment issues, perform computer functions for RIS/HIS systems, and label radiographs appropriately. A professional attitude, teamwork, and a customer-first approach are expected. The role includes participating in self-assessment of learning needs, attending in-services and CPR classes, maintaining state licensure and national board certification, managing supplies, and ensuring the cleanliness of equipment and work areas. Universal Precautions are to be used in daily procedures.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
• IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology
• Current ARRT (RT) Certification
• 1 year experience and proficient in the performance of general diagnostic, general fluoroscopy, GI, Pain, Urology, C-arm and O-arm procedures.
• Good communication skills
• Understanding of RIS & PACS
• Ability to work under stressful situations
• Ability to handle patient information in a confidential manner
• Ability to adapt to fluctuations in patient volumes to meet patient care and department needs
• Required to maintain current CPR certification.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

• Operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as ordered by a physician
• Accountable for the performance and documentation of all diagnostic procedures utilizing proper technical parameters to produce quality studies.
• Knowledgeable in the safe use, maneuverability and operation of all general radiography, portable, fluoro, C-arm and O-arm equipment
• Proficient in the performance of general diagnostic, general fluoroscopy, GI, Pain, Urology, C-arm and O-arm procedures
• Adheres to infection prevention, isolation and sterile techniques as it applies in patient handling and delivery of care
• Adheres to ALARA principles in performance of exams to reduce exposure to self, the patient and others
• Utilizes proper patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performing on the correct patient at the correct time.
• Obtains and records pertinent patient history, explains the procedure to patient in a manner to ensure understanding, ensures patient comfort during performance of exam.
• Adherence to department standards of radiographic quality.
• Reviews radiographs to ensure optimum quality.
• Reports environmental/equipment problems to appropriate resource personnel.
• Performs required computer function for RIS/HIS systems.
• Labels all radiographs appropriately following department’s established criteria and standards.
• Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism, teamwork and collaboration with co-workers, physicians and internal customers/departments.
• Consistently provides positive interactions and a customer first approach with patients and their families/caregivers and visitors.

• Maintenance of supplies needed to ensure adequate level needed for quality patient care.
• Ensures cleanliness of equipment and work area.
• Maintains inventory of supplies in work area. Identifies supplies and equipment needs for procedure, restocks work area as necessary.
• Uses Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures.
