The Radiology Technician is responsible for performing all scheduled or unscheduled x-ray studies, ordered by a licensed provider. This includes preparing the room, equipment, and necessary paperwork, as well as preparing the patient for the examination and explaining the procedure. The technician provides radiation protection according to safety standards, transfers and positions patients correctly, and operates x-ray equipment to produce high-quality radiographs. They follow protocols, develop films, and ensure proper patient identification and markers are used. Collaboration with clinicians, reporting equipment failures, participating in quality assurance, and maintaining inventory and logs are also key aspects of the role. The position requires the ability to respond to workflow and supervisor direction, select from pre-established alternatives, and compile information. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with knowledge of radiation safety, X-ray equipment operation, and imaging techniques. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for basic correspondence, reports, tables, and displays is necessary. A limited x-ray technician license by the state of California is required. Effective communication of complex or technical information, both written and verbal, is expected, with bilingual skills being preferred. The role involves moderate risk due to potential exposure to sharp objects, even with controls in place.
