About The Position

University of Washington Medical Center – Northwest – Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a Radiology Technical Assistant - MRI. The Radiology Technical Assistant provides general support to the Imaging Department. This includes preparing the patient for the procedure/ exam, transporting the patient, assisting the technologist to transfer and position the patient, assisting the technologist to perform the exam if so assigned, keeping exam rooms clean and stocked with supplies, and other general technical duties. Advanced imaging and diagnostic services in North Seattle Radiology at UWMC-Northwest is equipped with the advanced diagnostic imaging technology available. Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuroimaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin. We take time and attention with each patient to explain procedures, so they’ll know what to expect every step of the way. Radiology Services at UW Medical Center - Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or equivalent.
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.
  • CPR or BLS certification required, must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous exposure to the field of Radiology preferred.
  • 1 year patient care experience preferred.
  • Certification as a C.N.A in the State of Washington preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for diagnostic examination and assists technologist with limited procedures, under supervision, includes but is not limited to: Greeting patient and escorts to appropriate exam room. Using a professional, ethical, and caring demeanor, prepares and informs patients of exam procedure: Identify self, confirm name of patient and type of exam, explain the length of exam, and introduce technologist to the patient. If so assigned, assist with transferring and positioning the patient safely and properly for examination, under the direct supervision of the technologist. Operate imaging equipment for assigned procedures, under direct supervision of the technologist, according to departmental procedures. Notify supervising technologist immediately of equipment problems. Assist technologist in processing images efficiently, both digital and hard copy, Complete daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window.
  • Transport patients, if so assigned, including but not limited to: Utilize established patient transportation procedures and safety measures. Maintain observation of patient during transport. Notify nurse immediately if patient experiences distress or health problems. Maintain transport equipment; assure equipment is clean, in good working order, and prepared for transport use. Lift, position, and transfer patients, using safe-lifting techniques and tools.
  • Documentation, including but not limited to: Use RIS/PACS effectively to input/order/edit/cancel exams. Accurately assist with data input (exam orders, patient data, patient charges, etc.) and required paperwork and records. Effectively use the computer and NWH software applications to access information.
  • Coordinate and optimize customer service and workflow, including but not limited to: Exhibit excellent customer service skills with patients, physician office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc. Answer telephone using defined etiquette standards; transfers calls and takes messages. Answer and troubleshoot questions and follows through on inquiries. Relay information to technical staff as appropriate. In order to provide a high level of customer service and necessary coverage, all staff members are required to assist in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport); work weekends, other shifts, holidays; and help co-workers with workload and projects.
  • Maintain environment, including but not limited to: Set up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready. Inventory supplies and linens. Restock rooms as needed. Clean and tidy exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.
