About The Position

The Radiology Tech performs basic to complex diagnostic radiographic procedures, as requested by a licensed physician. The Radiology Tech exercises professional judgment in providing health care services, applying x-ray energy, to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly. The Radiology tech is multi-skilled in the use of O.R. procedures and equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
  • Possession of current Texas Medical Board (TMB) license.
  • Possession of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, in Radiography or registry eligible.
  • Must have ARRT within one year post graduation of accredited school.
  • Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality diagnostic radiographs, by selecting and operating appropriate radiographic equipment, operating room protocols, c-arm use and advanced diagnostic procedures
  • Practices aseptic techniques as necessary, understands methods of venipuncture and other sterile techniques, in agreement with state statues and./or where institutional policy permits, prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner
  • Rotates through advanced areas of diagnostic radiology to include procedures in O.R Urography room, open reductions, myelography, arthrography, placements and trauma
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and procedure is recorded
  • Assists practitioner with fluoroscopy, arthrography, O.R. procedures and trauma
  • Provides communication to patients for instructions and history in order to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical safety and psychological needs of the patient during procedures
  • Positions patients to best demonstrate anatomical areas of interest as requested respecting patients’ ability, comfort and safety. Checks to ask about pregnancy and LMP
  • Implements protective measures to prevent patient injury due to thermal. Electrical, mechanical, laser, chemical and radiation sources
  • Provides practical instruction, evaluation and precepting for students and/or other healthcare professionals
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas, quality control of equipment and reports equipment malfunction
  • Assures environment of working area, equipment and accessories are kept neat and clean
  • Initiates anecdotal, incident, contrast agent variance and accident reports in a timely manner
  • Performs related duties such as transporting patients, film processing and film filing as needed
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
  • Maintains safe environment
  • Addresses patient population-specific needs
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities
