About The Position

The Radiology Service Navigator is a key partner to the radiology team, providing administrative and ancillary support to the Radiology service line. This role supports overall department needs, with primary functions including managing inbound and outbound phone calls, relaying medical results to referring physicians, and ensuring exam reading readiness for timely and efficient exam dictation by the radiologist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Analytical skills and judgment to interpret data and take appropriate action in routine circumstances.
  • Ability to recognize when questions and situations are beyond the routine knowledge base and direct appropriately to the Radiologists.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in handling complex verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain focus.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and radiology information systems (RIS).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work well in a high-stress environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or completion of post-secondary coursework in a healthcare-related field (e.g., medical administration, health sciences, radiologist technology).
  • Experience or training in radiology, or a call center.
  • Completed coursework in medical terminology.
  • Certification in medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Triage, manage and direct incoming calls from referring physicians, technologists, and Radiologists within a call center environment.
  • Monitor and manage system communication work lists and instant messaging requests, initiating appropriate action based on client guidelines to meet designated turnaround times.
  • Report on non-compliant physicians with Incidental Finding guidelines and escalate to Departmental designee according to service-line process.
  • Communicate with ordering physicians via telephone or EPIC mails when there is an incidental finding for a patient, recording physician acknowledgement and next steps within EPIC.
  • Communicate findings to ordering providers as dictated within service-line guidelines, often by reading the dictation.
  • Connect Radiologists with referring physicians to facilitate timely communication of exam results.
  • Call physicians on behalf of the Radiologists to ensure results are provided to the appropriate health care professional, assisting in timely patient care. This includes faxing exam reports upon request.
  • Reply to Radiologist requests for further exam preparation by facilitating exam.
  • Document all communication and action taken on individual cases.
  • Assist the Radiologist during downtime situations based on client guidelines.
  • Act as a liaison between radiologists, referring clinicians, technologists, and departmental staff.
  • Assist with clerical tasks on an as-needed basis including scheduling, additional phone line triaging, and work list management.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
