About The Position

The Radiology Image Exchange Specialist coordinates the secure receipt, uploading, retrieval, and transfer of diagnostic imaging studies and related reports between Unity Health, external healthcare facilities, physician offices, imaging centers, and other approved requestors. This position works closely with Radiology staff and the PACS Administrator to ensure imaging studies are available timely and accurately for patient care, consultation, referral, continuity of care, and provider access. The specialist processes incoming and outgoing imaging requests utilizing PACS, image exchange platforms, CDs, cloud-based transfer solutions, or other approved methods. The specialist verifies patient information, confirms exam completeness, maintains accurate documentation, and follows privacy and security requirements when handling protected health information. Routine image transfer issues are addressed by the specialist when appropriate. Technical system issues, access concerns, workflow failures, or PACS-related problems are escalated to the PACS Administrator or appropriate leadership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to coordinate the receipt, retrieval, uploading, and transfer of diagnostic imaging studies and related reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, technologists, patients, outside facilities, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20-45 minutes at a time.
  • Ability to understand and relate to the concepts behind specific ideas and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, using advanced level of vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and families of all age groups, all radiology/nuclear medicine staff, referring physicians and residents, nursing scheduling, patient escort services and administration who may or may not be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Frequent interaction with personnel in other departments and with vendors.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Radiologic Technology, or related healthcare field preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in Radiology, Medical Records, Healthcare Information Systems, or a related healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience utilizing electronic medical records, PACS, image exchange platforms, or other healthcare information.
  • Experience handling confidential patient information and medical documentation preferred.
  • Knowledge of radiology terminology and diagnostic imaging procedures preferred.
