About The Position

Under the direction of the vice president of patient care services and in conjunction with the radiologists, the service director ensures service development, personnel management and resource allocation and control in order to support and enhance patient care. Responsible for the services provided within the hospital and satellite clinics including diagnostic, radiology, ultrasound, CT Scan, nuclear medicine, MRI, Interventional Radiology and Mammography.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in health sciences/ business administration or currently in progress toward degree with completion date identified prior to hire
  • Certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Maintains minimum ECE credits as mandated by the accrediting bodies; ARRT, ARDMS or NMTCB

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement short and long term goals; organize, define, and manage staff and capital equipment in an assigned radiology area in light of applicable vision and mission statements
  • Select, train, evaluate, discipline, and counsel employees consistent with department rules and regulations and applicable strategic plan and vision
  • Develop, maintain, evaluate, and recommend budget, inventory systems, and cost accounting systems as appropriate
  • Maintain radiology services in accordance with federal, state, local and accrediting agency standards
  • Direct radiology safety programs
  • Develop and maintain administrative procedure manuals, technical protocols, and forms; standards for quality control/quality assurance of procedure, equipment, and staff performance; and technical protocol and procedure manuals
  • Plan, direct, manage, and monitor the technical and administrative aspects of department services and programs, and evaluate the quality of such programs
  • Coordinate purchasing, storage and utilization of radiology supplies and equipment
  • Maintain and/or oversee written documentation of quality performance of equipment and vendors
  • Attend department management meetings and other hospital meetings to further management goals and coordinate patient care
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates an ongoing service program, which ensures quality patient programs consistent with the hospital mission
  • Monitors compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policy for patient services, personnel management, and environmental safety
  • Oversees a QA program, which consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care
  • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication
  • Serves as a resource to nurse managers and department managers within and across service lines
  • Fosters a service, which is consistent with the patient care beliefs and the shared management philosophy of the hospital
  • Actively participates in service, departmental, and hospital wide committees, as assigned, providing ongoing communication to those one represents
  • Participates in departmental project management, assuming a leadership role as warranted, in order to equitably assume these responsibilities with peer directors
  • Seeks new program strategies and program enhancements, which would expand patient services; explores required resources and reviews the impact; initiates program proposals and submits them to the hospital administration for consideration
  • Interprets/represents the practice and role of the hospital to allied healthcare professionals and physicians effectively
  • Coach’s immediate subordinates providing feedback, constructive critique, or work, facilitates the development of their problem-solving and decision-making skills, and documents their job performance annually
  • Follows progressive disciplinary action process (or oversees subordinates in doing so) in order to maintain productivity and performance standards
  • Completes an operational budget that reflects required workload, forecasted units of service, and programmatic changes
  • Monitors budget expenditures as reflected in accurate, objective variance analysis
  • Develops, prioritizes, and defends a capital equipment budget in collaboration with the service’s
  • Maintains a charging and billing system to ensure that correct charges are being made and distributed
  • Is responsible for the department’s operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards
  • Is responsible for the fiscal management of the department and ensures that the proper utilization of the organization’s financial resources
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industrial information to staff
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and other department functions
