About The Position

The Radiology Aide is responsible for respecting and protecting patient rights to confidentiality and privacy, providing safe patient care by verifying patient identification and ensuring all necessary documentation is present. This role involves bringing patients to exam rooms, gathering pre-clinical information and prior history, and managing doctor's office communications for revised scripts. The aide must comply with personal protective equipment requirements and facilitate workflow for all out-patient radiology modalities by printing daily schedules, preparing patient folders, and communicating any delays. They will handle incoming calls and communications from various offices, update radiologists on pending patients, and transport patients to the OR as needed. Additionally, the role requires ordering forms, knowledge of radiation safety guidelines, equipment, and supplies for procedures, and attending staff meetings and continuing education. The aide must also maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, and the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, physicians, and other health care workers.
  • Ability to establish and effective interpersonal professional relationships with physicians, management, peers, patients, and their families.
  • Must convey a positive attitude and present a professional appearance.
  • Must have effective communication (both oral and written) skills sufficient to resolve conflicts, and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.
  • Must have sufficient organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues and conflict.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate the ability and flexibility to effectively handle challenging and stressful situations and to balance and shift multiple priorities.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Must have the ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information.

  • One year of Radiology department experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respects and protects patient's rights to confidentiality and privacy.
  • Provides safe patient care by verifying patient identification and ensuring all necessary screening forms, scripts, and laboratory reports are present.
  • Brings patients to exam rooms, asks pre-clinical questions and prior history.
  • Faxes doctor offices for revised scripts and keeps track of sent scripts.
  • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Facilitates workflow for all out-patient radiology modalities by printing daily schedules and ensuring optimal workflow.
  • Puts together patient folders with reports and scripts.
  • Communicates any delays to the front desk and patients.
  • Handles all incoming calls and communication from various doctors’ offices/ ICC/POP/STAT LINE.
  • Updates radiologists with pending patients at end of day.
  • Transports patients to the OR as needed.
  • Orders forms as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all radiation safety guidelines, equipment, and supplies necessary for procedures.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, in-service education opportunities, and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers, and other members of the health care team.
