About The Position

This position involves assisting the laboratory with the collection and processing of blood samples, patient intake, and operational support. The role requires adherence to universal precautions and an understanding of biological specimen processing. The incumbent will also be responsible for greeting patients, accurately entering test requests into the RPMS computer system, initiating specimen acquisitions, answering phones, faxing documents, and assessing incoming orders.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• AMT Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA)
• ASCP Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA)
• Some roles require 6 months to 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
• Proficiency in basic lab equipment
• Computer skills
• Safety protocols
• Knowledge of biology/chemistry

Nice To Haves

• Postsecondary certificates or associate degrees in science fields are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the laboratory with the collection of blood samples via venipuncture or capillary specimen collection.
• Utilize general knowledge of biological specimen processing, including blood separation and preparation for referral laboratory transport.
• Greet patients professionally and enter test requests accurately into the RPMS computer systems.
• Initiate specimen acquisitions, answer phones, fax documents, and assess incoming orders.
• Apply knowledge of universal precautions and physiology to identify potentially incompatible or erroneous laboratory results caused by improper samples.
