Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics or a related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of radiation safety principles and regulatory requirements applicable to nuclear facilities and operations.
  • Ability to assist in the delivery and oversight of Radiation Protection Program training to ensure personnel are properly informed and compliant.
  • Excellent communication skills to comprehend, follow direction and convey detailed technical data.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships; work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills.

Nice To Haves

  • An NRRPT Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate all aspects of the Radiation Protection Program through audits and provide critical input into the program design, modification and implementation.
  • Review procedures and processes to ensure ALARA methodology has been incorporated; approve radiation work permits; certify radioactive waste shipping manifests; administer radiation safety training program.
  • Interact with management and regulators on radiation safety program implementation.
  • Conduct planning meetings with company and/or customer personnel prior to start of work to discuss dose estimates and radiological issues associated with various tasks, mock-up use, and shielding/scaffolding needs.
  • Perform analysis/evaluation on output of modeling software; evaluate spectral analysis for material disposition.
  • Serve as a liaison between company management and customer Radiation Protection (RP) representatives.
  • Act in a lead role within the group and may provide training and direction to less experienced professionals within the group.
