About The Position

Field Operations Radiological Control Technicians perform monitoring of personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas for the control of exposures from internal and external sources. When directed, they assume responsibility for assigned areas in the absence of the Radiological Control Technician (RCT) Lead. They frequently interact with Operations personnel of the area assigned, providing initial pre-shift communication to discuss scheduled activities. The role involves determining appropriate personnel monitoring devices, anti-contamination clothing (including respiratory protection), and stay times for radiological workers. They observe radiological work processes, perform Field Observations, and conduct contamination and radiation surveys. When directed, they assist in training less experienced RCTs and actively participate in work coverage planning. They also participate as an Emergency Response Organization RADCON team member.

Requirements

DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification.
High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of Radiological Protection experience OR 4 years of radiography/radiology experience OR associate's degree in a science I technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience OR bachelor's degree in a science I technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience OR master's degree in a science I technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience OR PHD in a science/ technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience.
Must be able to perform mathematical computations and conversions to express sampling & monitoring results in proper units and terms.
Experience required to utilize general databases and Microsoft Office.
Must understand the basic nature of the types of radiation.
Must be knowledgeable and trained in principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling of radiological hazards.
Requires the ability to recognize and characterize problems related to standards and limits, plan investigative action, and define corrective measures.
Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709.

When directed, assist in the training of less experienced RCTs.
Actively participates in the planning for work overage.
Participate as an Emergency Response Organization RADCON team member.
