About The Position

Provide Radiological Engineering support for assigned projects and facilities, including the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) Radiation Protection (RP) Program. Review and evaluate both proposed and ongoing radiological work activities to facilitate planning and support for radiological operations by identifying, analyzing, and mitigating radiological hazards using engineering principles and work controls. Maintain a field presence during radiological activities to ensure that proper radiological controls are implemented in work practices and that ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles are followed. Develop, review, and implement procedures, technical documents, reports, work control documents, and more, while conducting internal assessments, instrumentation evaluations, radiological software management, monitoring, and data analysis to ensure adherence to the Radiological Control Manual, RP Procedures, and relevant regulations. Assist with health physics evaluations and promote continuous improvement in the RP program by identifying issues, deficiencies, opportunities for enhancement, and best practices, and by taking appropriate follow-up actions. Perform advanced technical evaluations such as internal dosimetry evaluations, advanced shielding evaluations, ventilation evaluations, etc., using calculations and/or software to ensure regulatory requirements are met and doses are maintained ALARA. Ensure RP program compliance by evaluating, interpreting, and implementing regulator and contractual requirements, guidance documents, and technical standards and reports. Review new or proposed regulations and standards and evaluate their potential impact on the Radiation Protection program. Support radiological engineering through providing subject matter expert analysis and support, evaluations and reviews, developing and assisting in training, and performing radiological engineering duties as necessary to protect personnel, public, and environment from radiological hazards.
