About The Position

This is a Supervisory Non-Exempt position in support of the Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) of facilities at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and Kesselring Site. This project is part of the Department of Energy Nationwide DD&R Project (DOE EMCBC Task Order 4). Candidates should have supervisory experience and knowledge of radiological controls and administration, as well as standard construction and D&D techniques. Supervisors will establish and maintain radiological administrative programs, including instrumentation, dosimetry, and training. During production work, Supervisors will prepare and deliver pre-work briefs and lead workers performing radiological controls, hazardous materials, and asbestos abatement and are expected to maintain their knowledge levels.

Requirements

  • Qualification as Radiological Control Technician
  • 5 years minimum Supervisory experience in Construction and/or Demolition
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Public speaking skills
  • Ability to oversee verbatim compliance to work/safety procedures
  • Use of wide range of hand and power tools
  • Carpentry and mechanical skills
  • Ability to work in strict safety-focused work environment
  • Ability to take written and practical examinations
  • U.S. Citizen - No Dual Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Dept. of Energy "L" clearance
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience in pre-job scoping and hazard analysis
  • Experience with rigging and mechanical lifting equipment
  • Supervisory Experience working with Asbestos, Lead, PCBs and other Hazardous Materials
  • Asbestos Supervisor certification
  • 40HR HAZWOPER
  • Experience working by OSHA guidelines and standards

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain radiological administrative programs
  • Conduct Crew briefs of the work crew to specific procedures
  • Develop Job Hazard Analysis and conduct briefs to the work crews
  • Perform inspections to ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations
  • Oversight and accountability of trained work crews performing the following tasks
  • Demolition and dismantlement of equipment and structures
  • Mechanical disconnection and segregation of out-of-service machinery
  • Scaffold erection and working at heights
  • Radiological decontamination and component removal in strict compliance with radiological work procedures
  • Asbestos abatement of facilities and components
  • Environmental investigation and remediation activities
  • Segregation and packaging of hazardous, non-hazardous, chemical, and radiological wastes
  • Testing: written and practical exams to gain and maintain required qualifications
  • Waste segregation, handling. and packaging in accordance with written instructions
